Authorities search for fleeing suspect from home burglary

By WKTV News

SAUQUOIT, N.Y. (WKTV) - Authorities are searching for a suspect they say was caught by a homeowner while trying to burglarize a home in Sauquoit Thursday afternoon.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, a Paris Hill Road homeowner came home Thursday afternoon only to find a man in his home, in the middle of an alleged burglary. Authorities say the homeowner fought with the suspect until the suspect fled, running into the woods behind the home. The homeowner was not injured.

However, authorities say they were able to obtain the suspect's identity because a female who was in a car in the driveway, allegedly the vehicle used by the suspect, was blocked in by the homeowner's car when they returned home.

While they know the suspect's identity, they have not yet released it to the public, and say he is still at large. Authorities were searching an area near Paris Hill Road and Butler Road in Sauquoit several hours after the homeowner discovered the man in his home. State Police were on scene using K-9 Units in the search, but were not able to catch him in the woods.

The suspect is not armed, and is described as a white male, roughly 19-20 years old, 6 feet tall, with dark hair, last seen wearing red shorts and a torn, white t-shirt.

Residents are advised that the suspect is still at large as of this writing and are advising people to lock their doors, vehicle and garages.

If you have any information, you are asked to call 911.
