UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police hope that autopsies performed on murder/suicide victims Jerry McNair and Petra Gonzales will answer remaining questions about how and when McNair ended their lives. Police think they know why McNair did it. They say that between the breakup and some pending criminal charges, McNair was in a downward spiral. They believe he shot a former 22-year-old girlfriend in the back of the head at point-blank range Monday night. She survived. What's unclear is whether McNair shot and killed 36-year-old former girlfriend Petra Gonzales before or after inflicting the critical wound on his 22-year-old victim Monday. Autopsies will also answer the location and number of injuries, believed in this case to be gunshot wounds. Utica Police do have the initial summary report on the two post-mortem examinations which contains preliminary findings. They expect to release details once they consult with the Ononodaga Coroner's Office on how much information they can legally disclose.
