Babysitter faces charges after child found on Route 26

EATON, N.Y. (WKTV)- A wandering 2 ½ year old child was found around 9 am Friday by a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy at the intersection of State Route 26 and Eagleville Road in the Town of Eaton.

According to deputies, the child was carrying his shoes and his
pants were soggy.

They've arrested his babysitter.

Through the interaction between Child Protective Services, they found the child's mother had dropped him off at the babysitter's residence on Park Street earlier that morning.

Starr Miller, 20, of West Eaton, says she put the child down for a nap and went to a nearby room.

Shortly after, the child left the residence without Miller’s knowledge.

Deputies advised Starr of the situation when they woke her up an hour later.

The child was not reported missing. The mother was notified and has since been reunited with the child.

Miller was arrested and charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child,

Sheriff Allen Riley remarked that this situation certainly could have been disastrous had the child not been found by the deputy.

State Route 26 is busy at that time of the day, and the child could have easily been hit.
