Bass Pro Shops looking for employees at new Utica location

By ALLISON NORLIAN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Bass Pro Shops is coming to the Riverside Center in Utica and a job fair was held this week in order to fill the 200-220 jobs that come with it.

Hundreds of people have come to the Radisson Hotel in Utica over the past few days, applying for jobs that range from cashiers and customer service positions to boat repair and boat techs. Bass Pro Shops are also looking for people to fill positions within their hunting department and maintenance department, as well as looking for people to sell camping equipment and their apparel.

No experience is required to apply and they will train anyone with a passion for the outdoors.

The General Manager of the Utica Store, Joseph Chaney, said he believes his shop will better the local economy by drawing more business to the area. Chaney also believes that customers think of great things when they hear the words "Bass Pro Shops," which is part of the reason they are expanding to Utica.

"It's the gateway to the Adirondacks. How can you beat that?" Chaney said. "For New York State, it's hunting and fishing...its fantastic!"

Second interviews are already booked for the rest of this week and next week. If you are interested in an interview, but can't make it to the job fair today, applications can be found on the Bass Pro Shops website.

The store is set to open October 10.
