Bassett employee assaulted while walking to parking lot

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Bassett employee was assaulted last night while walking to a parking lot, but police say she was able to fight the suspect off.

Cooperstown Police say the female employee was walking on Susquehanna Ave toward Clark Sports Center where some Bassett employees park their vehicles.

Police say an unknown male tackled the woman to the ground, yelling obscenities to her. The woman said the man punched her in the face and several times in the body before she got him off her, ripping his shirt in the process.

The man fled the scene, but due to the darkness of the night, police say the woman was not able to get a very good description of him.

The best description she could give was a man of slender build, between 5' 5" and 5' 10", 150-175 pounds, with a dark hooded sweatshirt, and possibly a hoodie or face mask.

"An employee was assaulted while walking to her car and was treated and released after evaluation in our emergency department," said Karen Huxtable of Bassett Healthcare. "Police are investigating the incident and we hope it’s resolved soon. In the meantime, we have reminded employees to use the shuttles to get to and from parking lots that are a distance from campus or to call Security for a ride after hours, and, when they walk, to do so with someone else – especially after dark."

If you have any information or witnessed anything in the area, Cooperstown Police ask that you call them at 607-547-2500.
