(WKTV) - Bassett Healthcare Network President and CEO Dr. William Streck was honored Friday by the Healthcare Association of New York State.
Streck received the group's 2014 Distinguished Service Award at HANYS' annual conference.
The award was established by the group's Board of Trustees in 1979 to recognize those who have demonstrated outstanding personal service in the health care field in one or more of the following areas: patient welfare, hospital administration, residential health care administration, local and state health care organizations, public service and promotion of social and other legislation relating to better health care.
Streck came to Bassett in Cooperstown in 1978 as the hospital's first board-certified endocrinologist. Six years later, he was tapped to lead the organization. In his 30-year tenure, he developed the one hospital into a network of six hospitals and more than 40 community-and school-based health centers, serving eight counties. The network also includes two skilled nursing facilities, a home-health agency and a durable medical supply company.
"HANYS is proud to honor Dr. Bill Streck with this award," said Dennis Whalen, president of HANYS. "He has redefined the role of a rural hospital by embracing new models for effective, efficient and sustainable patient-centered care, while also significantly expanding access."
