Benefit held for daughter of Schuyler Street fire victim

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The West Utica community continues to show its support for the victims of the Schuyler Street fatal fire. The Nice 'n Easy convenience store on Court Street hosted a benefit Saturday including a car wash, a raffle and an arts and crafts sale.

The fire on May 9 killed 32-year-old Leida Santiago and her three sons: four-year-old Julius, two-year-old Matias and one-year-old Sebastian.

Santiago's only daughter, ten-year-old Rosa survived because she was in school at the time of the fire. Saturday's benefit was to raise money for relatives who will help raise her.

Family friend Jasmine Lane said, "I think it's a great thing because you've got so many people coming together helping out. People that don't even know them coming to help out. It's a great thing that we've got so many people in the community trying to help this little girl out."

If you were not able to attend the benefit but would still like to make a donation to the family, you can do so by calling 315-507-2738.
