Benefit held for local man diagnosed with Stage Four pancreatic cancer

By WKTV News

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A benefit was held Sunday at Valentino's Banquet Hall in New Hartford, for Joe Lewis, a man recently diagnosed with Stage Four pancreatic cancer.

Lewis has lived in the Utica-Whitesboro area since he was seven years old.

Approximately 1,000 tickets to Sunday's fundraiser were sold. His son says that the number of attendees is just a testament to how much the community loves his father.

"Along the line, he's done something for someone," said Rick Lewis, Joe Lewis' son. "Everyone he has come in contact with. Just an all-around great guy, and you see by the attendance here today. I believe we've sold over 1,000 tickets."

More than 40 restaurants and vendors donated their time and products Sunday, as well.

All proceeds go to help defray medical costs.

If you would like to make a donation, checks can be made out to "The Benefit for Joe Lewis" and mailed to: c/o Laurie Maglione, 5073 Roseanne Drive, Liverpool, NY 13088.
