LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Hundreds of students at Benton Hall Academy Elementary School hit the pavement for a preview of a special event, Friday.

Saturday marks the Annual Diabetes Walk, and for the first time, the students had a chance to preview the course before the event.

All the children who attended donated a quarter, which went towards the American Diabetes Association.

Through the walk, Benton Hall teachers hope to expose and educate their students to the illness.

"Juvenile diabetes is on rise and it could be due to the obesity of the generation of our children or hereditary reasons," said special education teacher, Lauren Bailor. "So they need to know to eat healthy, exercise and be aware that there is this silent killer out there."

The Diabetes Walk begins Saturday at 10 a.m., with registration a 8 a.m., at Little Falls High School.
