Bicyclist killed in Saturday accident identified

(WKTV) - A bicyclist killed in an accident Saturday  in the Town of Kirkland  has been identified.

Catherine Howard-Gilpin, 74, of Clark Mills, died in the Saturday afternoon accident where a pick-up truck hit a bicyclist on Fountain Street.

According to Kirkland police, Howard-Gilpin was riding her bike heading north on the right side of Fountain Street. The truck, driven by Franklin Frost of Sauquoit, was also headed north on Fountain Street. He said he was looking left into the soybean field, and when he looked back Howard-Gilpin was in his lane and he was unable to avoid hitting her. Howard-Gilpin was not wearing a bike helmet and sustained head and internal injuries.

No charges are pending against Frost at this time. Anyone who may have seen the accident or saw Howard-Gilpin riding her bicycle before the accident are asked to call Kirkland Police at (315) 853-2924.
