UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A woman accused of helping her friend forge signatures leading up to in the race for Oneida County Sheriff is scheduled to return to court next week.
Heidi Bessette's lawyer filed motions in the case Tuesday morning in Oneida County Court. Her friend, Oneida County Corrections Officer Angela Gumbarevic has already pleaded guilty in the case and is set to be sentenced to five years probation and community service on May 24.
Gumbarevic and Bessette were accused of submitting forged signatures in order to get on the ballot last year.
Gumbarevic is currently suspended without pay. A final decision on her position will be determined at her sentencing, Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol said.
