Blueberries are sweet and large this season

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - One local fruit crop has benefited from the rain we've had this summer.

Growers at North Star Orchards in Westmoreland said the blueberries are larger and sweeter than usual, and are right on time this year.

"We're experiencing what I would call an optimal blueberry season," said George Joseph of North Star Orchards. "The rain plumps those berries right up. Last year, we got too much rain in a short period of time."

He also said the mild spring as far as frost helped the crop. Blueberries are available at farm stands throughout the area. North Star Orchards offers an option to pick your own, as well as purchase the berries.
