Body of missing boater located in Delta Lake

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Crews have recovered the body of 62-year-old Arthur Carney from Delta Lake. Carney was first reported missing back on June 25th, when his boat was found empty in the water.

Around 5pm Sunday afternoon some boaters located his body in the water and contacted officials. An Oneida County Sheriff Marine Unit responded right away and crews were called to the scene to recover his body.

Lt. James McCarthy says Carney's body was recovered in the same vicinity where he was last seen boating.

Carney's family has been notified and officials say they are relieved to have some sense of closure.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Department and multiple other agencies have been looking for Carney every single day since his boat turned up empty last month. "The weather has been a factor for us," said McCarthy. "We used a lot of resources, a lot of agencies assisted us and we're very appreciative of it. The family has been very supportive and we couldn't have done it without their support. I wish we could've recovered him earlier but it's just the way things worked out."

The people who located Carney's body were not part of a search team.

The medical examiner's office will perform an autopsy to determine Carney's exact cause of death.
