Boonville man ordered to undergo psych evaluation after allegedly assaulting father

BOONVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A 38 year old Boonville man has been charged after authorities say he assaulted his father during an altercation at the son's home.

According to Village of Boonville Police Chief James D. Galler, on Saturday, February 25 around 7:16 p.m., two officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at 104 Main Street in the village - the home of Bryce Renders, 38.

Police said Renders had allegedly become involved in a verbal altercation with his father - Bruce Renders, 68, of Rome. Following a verbal altercation, Bruce asked his son to step outside and as he was exiting the residence, police said Bryce came from behind him and kicked him in the back down a flight of stairs, causing Bruce to fall forward and down the stairs, striking his head as he fell. The fall caiused a laceration and bruising to the left side of Bruce's face and broke his eye glasses.

At about 7:41 p.m., Boonville Police Officers attempts to take Bryce Renders into custody for the assault, when he continued tobe violent, fighting with the officers as they tried to restrain him. Two more officers responded to the location and Bryce Renders was taken into custody and transported to the Boonville Police Station for booking.

The father, Bruce Renders, was treated for his injuries at the scene by Boonville Ambulance Personnel and was released.

Bryce Renders was charged with third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in the Town of Boonville Court and remanded to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail or $2,000 bond.

The Town of Boonville Court Judge also ordered a psychiatric examination of Renders before returning to the court.
