COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - The 2014 Otsego County Distinguished Business of the Year was announced, Friday.
This year's winner was the rapidly-growing Brewery Ommegang based in Cooperstown.
The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce visited the brewery, in order to present the award to a business they described as thinking "local first."
According to The Chamber, Ommegang was selected in part because "they support the community, and this is the community's way to support them."
"We've been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to grow the brewery to become something very special," said Simon Thorpe, President and CEO of Ommegang. "We put made in Cooperstown on every single bottle we make, and we're very proud of that."
While staying very loyal to its local roots, Brewery Ommegang has also become one of the most prominent craft breweries in the nation.
Its parent company recently teamed up with a company from Kansas City, in order to grow the brand even more.
As of right now, Brewery Ommegang ranks as the 8th largest craft breweries in America.
