Brindisi wants to know why Utica/Rome gas prices are so high
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica/Rome area has the third highest average gas price in New York State, only behind New York City and Long Island.
Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says he received numerous phone calls from constituents asking why local prices are higher than Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo.
On Saturday, Brindisi told NEWSChannel 2 that he sent a letter to New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to look into why the prices are so high and to determine if there is any kind of price gouging taking place.
Brindisi said, "What I've been told is there's a lack of competition in the area, that we're harder to get to. But to me, those really don't add up. We're on the same Thruway as Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo. I don't think the Utica/Rome region is harder to get to than Watertown or Binghamton, yet we pay the highest prices in Utica/Rome for gas anywhere Upstate."
