UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police were busy Monday night and early Tuesday morning, dealing with not just one, but two cases of shots fired in the city.

Just under two hours before police would respond to a shooting on Nichols Street, officers in the area of Schuyler Street were on patrol around 10:20 p.m. When they heard shots being fired.

On Wager Street, they observed a gray Jeep and shots being fired from the back seat window at a house on the corner of Schuyler Street and Wager Street. When the officers activated their emergency lights, the vehicle fled.

The officers pursued the vehicle for several blocks as the vehicle made turn after turn in an attempt to get away from the police. The vehicle slowed in the 1200 block of Walnut Street and three occupants jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot.

The officers pursued them and were able to catch one of the occupants - Antar Handy, 23, of Brooklyn, as he attempted to climb a fence and took him in to custody. Police said a .45 caliber handgun was found in the vehicle as well as several packages of heroin and crack cocaine. Two suspects remain at large.

Handy has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
