Brooklyn man pleads not-guilty in fatal stabbing of Rome man

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Terrence Dames, 26, of Brooklyn was arraigned in Rome City Court on Wednesday, charged with second-degree murder in the the death of 20-year-old Stephen LaPointe, of Rome.

Rome Police responded to a stabbing around 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the area of Lawrence and Depeyster Streets. Authorities believe a fight broke out, ending with Dames stabbing LaPointe several times in the torso and fleeing the scene.

LaPointe was sent to Rome Memorial Hospital where he remained in critical condition, dying late Tuesday night.

Dames fled the scene on foot, prompting a manhunt that involved the New York State Police, Rome Police, and a canine unit. Dames was found Tuesday and arrested.

Judge Wilson presided over the arraignment Wednesday morning, where Dames pleaded not-guilty and is set to appear again in Rome City Court on Friday, September 30 at 11 a.m.
