Buffalo publication ranks Utica-area schools

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Business First, a publication out of Buffalo, has ranked area public school districts based on four years of test date from the New York State Education Department.

The rankings are based on a 168-part formula, where four years of standardized test data from third grade through senior year are examined.

According to project editor G. Scott Thomas, the publication ranks the schools because many of their readers are employers and management who are seeking quality employees. The readers are also mostly parents and are all taxpayers who have an interest in a district's performance.
