CVA students experience 'real world,' hold mock village board meeting

By WKTV News

ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Seniors at Central Valley Academy got a little taste of real world politics, Tuesday.
The students spent the day outside of the classroom for a mock village board meeting, in honor of Youth and Government Day in Ilion and Mohawk.
The day was organized by the Ilion Elks Lodge, and had students assuming the roles of Mayor, Police and Fire Chiefs, Head of the Water Board and many others.
It was a way to get the students engaged while giving them a first-hand look on how the village government works.
"These kids are actually learning what it takes and hopefully, I believe, there are a few interested in joining one of the commissions," said Mayor Beth Neale, of Ilion. "That gets them started learning about how everything works to be future leaders here in the village."

After the mock board meeting, the students were able to go on a trip to tour the Water Department facilities and Light Department Substation.
