Calling hours held for one victim, prayer service planned
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - As the Mohawk Valley continues to mourn the loss of four killed in a shooting spree, the first calling hours for one man were held Sunday afternoon.
Friends and family of Michael Ransear gathered to say goodbye at the Heintz Funeral Home in Utica.
Ransear was killed inside John's Barber Shop on Wednesday. He was a Navy veteran who spent 18 years as a corrections officer at Mohawk Correctional Facility, retiring in 2006. He was also a husband, father and grandfather.
Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Fischer said Ransear and Michael Renshaw, a prison guard, "will be remembered for their dedication and daily contributions made throughout their long careers."
His funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First Assembly of God (9427 Maynard Drive, Marcy).
The community is also preparing for a prayer service, scheduled for Monday evening in Herkimer.
