Candlelight Vigil held in New York Mills in support of injured pedestrians

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New York Mills Police Department continues to investigate a motor vehicle accident that took place in the 200 block of Main St. In the Village of New York Mills, Saturday.

According to the Police, at approximately 6:30 p.m., on November 1st, Andrew J. Spost, 20, of Yorkville, was traveling northbound on Main Street when he struck 3 juvenile pedestrians as they were crossing the roadway.

A portion of the street, near Trio's Pizza and Pulaski Park, was closed off for several hours, Friday, while the NYMPD attempted to reconstruct the accident.

Officials said that the three pedestrians, who's identities have not yet been released, were taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, with undisclosed injuries.

In the wake of the accident, locals gathered at the 9/11 Memorial on Main St. in the village, Saturday at around 5 p.m. for a candlelight vigil, to show their support and share their prayers for the victims' recovery.

One of the victims is said to have been taken to a Syracuse Hospital in critical condition, since Friday night, and two female victims were said to be in 8th grade. However, New York Mills Police has not confirmed this at this time.

More information will be provided once it is released. The accident is still under investigation.
