Central New Yorkers enjoy Labor Day, the unofficial end to the summer

By PAT BAILEY

(WKTV) - As the sun ducked behind the clouds Monday, boats sped up and down Hinckley Reservoir, some filled with kids getting one more summer thrill in before the first day of school.

After summer was officially declared, 77 days ago, high temperatures and plenty of sun shined over the Mohawk Valley. Now, on it's last unofficial day, many were scrambling to get one more adventure.

"We went about two or three miles up the Black Creek, taking advantage of the nice weather before it turns." said John Siegel as he and his family tied their three kayaks to their vehicle.

Mike Cimo of Mohawk spent the day on the Hinckley Reservoir.

"It's a nice little lake, nice and quiet," Cimo said. "You don't have to worry about too much hassle on the waters."

Both Cimo and the Siegel family admitted as much as they love the summer, and enjoying the outdoor summer activities, they are just as excited to move onto the colder weather fun.

"I can't wait to get summer over with, winter is the reason why we live up here," said Siegel. "Skiing, snowmobiling is what it is all about."

"It was a nice summer, sorry to see it go, but like I said, I got snow mobiles too, so were waiting for that winter," Cimo said.
