Chadwicks, New Hartford, New York Mills residents pumping water out

CHADWICKS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Residents in Chadwick are spending their Friday pumping out basements after rains pounded the area overnight.

Many residents woke up in the early morning hours to find their yards and cellars flooded.

"A lake in the middle of the driveway. Three, four, five feet of water in the cellar, and it's slowly going down," said Phil Tarbox, who is helping clean his friend's house on Hand Place. "It's going to be a long day."

The Parks, who live there, say this is nothing compared to the damage from 2011, when flooding ripped off the back of their home.

Many residents say they're tired of dealing with this recurring situation.

"The people in the town of Hartford are frustrated with the problem and it just seems you know, I know the town is working hard to deal with it and it's a lot bigger issue, but I think if we need to bond for it and our taxes go up a little bit, our taxes go up a little bit," said Justin Sorrentino, a homeowner.

More rain is expected and officials are stressing not to drive over roads covered with water. Just a few inches can sweep your vehicle away and can be very dangerous.
