Charitable organizations hoping for a generous Giving Tuesday

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - While people were quick to open wallets on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, charitable organizations are hoping people are just as generous on Giving Tuesday.

The United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica spent the day sorting coats and boots that were donated by Herb Philipson's. The winter apparel will go to local schools that see the need.

And at Barnes and Noble today, the United Way has teamed up with the Literacy Coalition to raise awareness. A percentage of all sales at Barnes and Noble on Tuesday will go to the Literacy Coalition.

"A lot of people give at the end of the year," said Brenda Episcopo, executive director of the United Way. "Giving Tuesday is a catchy way of reminding people now's a great time to give."

If you are interested in donating to the United Way, text "Live" to 52000 and $10 will be billed to you.\
