Charity basketball game raises funds, gives players a boost

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - An intense basketball game at Madison Central School on Tuesday promoted healthy living, raised funds for charity and let the players have a little fun.

The East vs. West game is sponsored by the Office For People With Developmental Disabilities, which has organized the game for its clients for six years.

Syracuse Assistant Basketball Coach Gerry McNamara dropped in on the game, as the event supports the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation.

"The men and women with developmental disabilities in this area are pretty passionate about Syracuse University," said Cindy Markowicz of OPWDD. "They're fans of the Orange and follow them throughout the year, no matter what the sport. So this was a way to support an organization near and dear to Syracuse University."

Today's event raised more than $3,800 for the foundation. Since 2009, $29,000 has been raised.
