Cherry Valley man killed in logging accident

CHERRY VALLEY, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Cherry Valley man has died as the result of a logging accident that happened on Monday evening. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office was notified at 6:39 p.m. that a man was trapped under a tree on Van Derwerker Road in Cherry Valley.

Officials located the man 3/10ths of a mile into the woods. Robert Lusk, age 66 of 603 Van Derwerker Road, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say Lusk was struck from behind by a previously cut maple tree that fell on him as he was cutting up a log. Otsego County Coroner Michael Fox says Lusk died of massive internal injuries caused by blunt force trauma.

The Cherry Valley Fire Department and Emergency Squad also responded to the scene.
