Child abuse prevention highlighted in month of April

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and that's why on Monday, blue and white balloons were let go above the tree tops outside the Oneida County Office Building.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente along with other county leaders, held an event to bring light to the issue of child abuse.

The officials were joined by children from the Neighborhood Center in Utica to release the balloons.

The commissioner of the county's Social Services Department says bringing awareness to child abuse is very important because so many people who do report it, say they wished they had reported it earlier.

A huge banner sits outside the Oneida County Office Building that displays the Child Abuse Prevention hot line phone number.

That number is 1-800-342-3720.
