Child, two adults killed in Chenango County fire

AFTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - Three people were killed in a fire in Chenango County after their mobile home became engulfed in flames late Saturday night, according to New York State Police.

Afton is located directly south of Hamilton.

Those killed are identified by officials as 11-year-old Craig Gohl, 45-year-old Nathan Herbert and 54-year-old Anna Ebert.

Firefighters responded to find the mobile home engulfed in fire. They were able to control and extinguish the fire in approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

The three people were found dead after the fire was extinguished and died due to smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning, police said.

Officials say the fire appears to have started accidentally due to smoking materials near the couch of the living room.

Investigation determined there were no working smoke alarms in the residence.
