Children from Camden School District get chance to 'Shop with a Cop'

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Children from the Camden School District came to Sangertown Square on Thursday for the Ninth Annual Shop with a Cop program.

State troopers, local police officers and sheriff's deputies took part on their own time as 42 children in grades kindergarten through 12th got $100 to spend anywhere in the mall.

Officers say there are benefits to the children and themselves when it comes to participating in the program.

"Many times, some of the kids that are here today are ones where we're at their houses for regular police work," said Dustin Hite, New York State trooper. "So for them to see us in a positive light, it's very good for both of us."

The kids also received Shop with a Cop T-shirts. The money to pay for the annual outing comes from donations from those in the Camden community.
