Clayville man airlifted after tractor-car accident

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - A Clayville man was airlifted to a Buffalo hospital Monday after an accident involving a tractor and a car, New Hartford police said.

Thomas Brown, 71, of Clayville was driving a tractor on Route 840 west of Middle Settlement Road when he was involved in a collision with a car driven by Abigail Tompkins, 23, of Utica.

According to authorities, both were headed west on Route 840. The initial investigation shows Tompkins' car struck the back of the seed spreader Brown's tractor was pulling. This caused the tractor to jackknife and overturn.

Tompkins was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where she was treated and released. Brown was also taken to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center to treat a skull fracture and internal injuries. He was airlifted to Buffalo for further treatment.

The westbound lanes of Route 840 from Commercial Drive west were closed for about four hours Monday morning.

New Hartford police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them at 724-7111.

No traffic tickets have been issued at this time.
