Clinton church celebrates 150 years

CLINTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local church is celebrating a major milestone and, at the same time, focusing on the present.

St. James Episcopal Church was founded in 1862, so this is the church's 150th year in existence.

Even on this celebratory day, church leaders focused on what's going on in the world today, and the need of the people in the community. Many who attended Sunday's festivities brought in non-perishable food items which will be donated to the country panty food bank.

Reverend Tim Reger said, "We are a vibrant community and we continue to do a lot of good work as we meet some of the challenges of being a parish in the 21st century. We're trying to be relevant to some of the needs and at the same time preserve some of our roots in the Anglican tradition."

Church leaders also wanted to add that a major reason for the continued success of the church has been the increasing role of women in the church over the years.
