NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Clinton woman was injured after her car collided into a tractor trailer at the intersection of Middle Settlement Road and Seneca Turnpike in New Hartford on Tuesday morning, resulting in a fuel spill that required a clean-up.

According to New Hartford Police, a vehicle headed northbound on Middle Settlement Road, driven by Mary A. Zali, 74, of Clinton, stopped at the intersection with Seneca Turnpike and then proceeded into the intersection, colliding with an eastbound tractor trailer being operated by Javier Lopez, 34, of Homestead, Florida. Police said the collision caused heavy damage to Zali's vehicle and ruptured the fuel tank on the side of the tractor trailer, causing a large amount of diesel fuel to be spilled from the tank.

A crew from the New York State Department of Transportation and the Town of New Hartford Highway Department were called to the scene to assist with the fuel clean up. The DEC Spill Response Team also responded to assist with the clean up.

Authorities said Zali complained of head pain and was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in the City of Utica for treatment. Lopez was not injured and Zali was issued a summons for passing a red light and will answer the ticket in New Hartford town court next month.

The New Hartford Fire Department and Edwards Ambulance assisted the police at the scene.
