Police: Man dies from heart attack while driving himself to hospital


UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police confirm that a Herkimer County man has died after apparently suffering a heart attack while driving on the North-South Arterial, causing an accident.

Authorities say that 68-year-old David Davis of Cold Brook lost consciousness and struck the guide-rail. He was later pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Police say it appears that he died from the heart attack, which preceded the accident. Davis was driving himself to the hospital after suffering chest pains, police supsect.

The incident happened just before 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the southbound lane near the Thruway overpass, not far from Riverside Center.

Davis' wife was in the car when the accident took place. She was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center also but is said to be uninjured.

No other cars were involved in the accident.
