Utica Common Council meets one last night before budget vote
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica City Budget goes before the city's common council on Tuesday night, and with it comes a number of possible layoffs from a myriad of departments, including the City DPW and Public Safety, just to name a few.
The bulk of those layoffs come from Public Safety positions, with 23 positions set to be cut from the Police Department and 12 to the Fire Department.
The cuts come in an effort by the Common Council to keep taxpayers from undergoing an 18% tax increase.
One night before that budget vote, the Common Council was meeting to discuss any possible changes, union concessions or last minute solutions.
