Community bands together to help NYM business cleaning up after fire

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Take a scroll down Uncle's Tavern Bar and Grill's Facebook page and you'll see lots of 'thank you' messages combined with pictures of cleaning supplies, food and other items.

All these items are donations and gifts from community members determined to help the New York Mills business get back on its feet after a fire ripped through in late August.

Owner Larry "Buddy" Spetts said that donations and help from others have been coming in since the tragic incident happened.

The show of support has been overwhelming.

"It's motivating," he said. "It's one of those things, where it's easy to throw in the towel and give up. But, when so many people give their support, it's a lot easier to push forward."

He hopes to reopen the business, located on 435 Main Street, pending a meeting with a structural engineer. He will, then, find out if reopening is possible.

Spetts says if folks want to donate supplies or offer to help via physical labor to contact him on his facebook at
