Community gathers to remember Officer Joseph Corr and other fallen officers

By LEXIE O'CONNOR

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A memorial service was held at Saint John's Church in New Hartford Wednesday night to remember Officer Joseph Corr and other local fallen officers. Officer Corr was shot and killed chasing a robbery suspect on February 27, 2006.

The service also remembered Utica Police Officer Thomas Lindsey, Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Kurt Wyman and New York State Trooper Andy Sperr who were all killed in the line of duty.

Community members joined the fallen officers' families in song and prayer to remember them and honor the lives they led. A candle was then lit in honor of each man.

"I think it's important to remember not only them, but it gives everyone a chance to appreciate what our police do for us and the risks they take every day," said Dave Corr, Joe Corr's father. "Unfortunately with three here in the area in the last seven years, it's all too sad a scenario."

Following the mass a vigil was held at the Byrne Dairy in Kirkland where Officer Corr was gunned down chasing a robbery suspect.
