Community reflects on 9/11 at Regional Prayer Breakfast

WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Genesis Group hosted their 11th Annual Regional Prayer Breakfast at Hart's Hill Inn in Whitesboro on Tuesday as community leaders and politicians joined local police departments and emergency personnel to help remember the events that happened and the people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

A speaker from CNN in Washington DC discussed the way the tragic events shaped the way information is received and digested and representatives from the New York State Police spoke about the lessons learned and the way their jobs have changed because of the attacks on American soil.

One of the men honored at the ceremony was Chief Russell Brooks of the Utica Fire Department, who responded to Ground Zero in New York City, along with 11 other men, 11 years ago.

"This event brings to the front of everyone's minds what happened 11 years ago," said Chief Brooks. "It's a premier event and there couldn't be a better way to start this day then with prayer and breakfast and for me, it holds a special meaning."

Members of the Color Guard from Rome were on hand to present the flag and honor all of those who have served past and present.

The ceremony concluded with a prayer and moment of silence for the victims of the terrorist attacks.
