VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) Madison Cortland and Herkimer ARC along with the Arc Oneida-Lewis hosted their 4th annual Autism Seminar at Vernon Downs on Monday.
The idea behind the all-day conference was to educate and bring together community members who are directly impacted by autism.
Zaida Morell, a parent whose 16-year-old son has autism, said that these type of events not only provide practical advice, but also connect others going through similar situations.
"It's nice that people reach out and, you know, there is a great amount of support out there that you can access and utilize it to help your child, or people in the community or in school," Zaida Morell, who attended the conference.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Brenda Smith Myles, who discussed practical solutions for understanding rules in social situations.
