Control tower could bring 800 jobs with it

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - New York State is getting a new civilian air traffic control center that will bring some new jobs with it.

Now the only question is where in the state it will land.

The center will be responsible for controlling all commercial airspace in New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Proposed locations for the control center include Albany, Long Island and Griffiss Business Park.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente is hoping the facility will come to Griffiss because the county could use the more than 800 jobs it will bring.

"Obviously, the fact that we have the Eastern Air Defense there, the fact that we have Griffiss which is such a large airport and has such great capability could add to the instance of us landing this," Picente said.

1,200 jobs could be created in the future, with salaries around $80,000 a year or more.
