Cooperstown Community Band celebrates 150 years

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Cooperstown Community Band is celebrating it's 150th Anniversary Season. Wednesday night the group was honored by the State Senate in Cooperstown.

The band played at the Otesaga Hotel for the crowd, which included State Senator James Seward. Seward presented the band with a special legislative resolution in it's honor. The Cooperstown Community Band started in 1862, with just 13 members. Today, it is made up of 45 volunteers, from six different counties.

The group performs during the summer months. Julie Solomon has been conducting the band for 9 seasons. "I have the best job on earth-- absolutely," said Solomon, "I get to to look out over the lake and conduct this fabulous group of musicians that are passionate about playing- and are so much fun!" Members range in age from 9 to 89 years old.
