Couple arrested when found high on bath salts with children in home

SANGERFIELD, N.Y.(WKTV) - A 9-1-1 call lead to several charges for one couple when they were found living in deplorable conditions with three children, and high on a drug that uses bath salts.

Oneida County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic dispute early Tuesday morning along Route 12 in the Town of Sangerfield.

They found Jon and Pearl VanNort both impaired by the use of a drug known as bath salts with their three children home.

Child Protective Services was called to the scene due to the deplorable living conditions and the three children, ages 4, 5 and 6 were removed from the home and taken to a family member's house to be cared for.

The VanNort's were both charged with three misdemeanor counts each Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Pearl VanNort also faces a misdemeanor charge of Criminal Mischief for breaking a cell phone during the domestic incident.

Both parties also face drug charges pending the results of lab tests of the bath salt substances found in the residence.

The couple was arraigned in the Town of Sangerfield Court and sent to Oneida County Jail on $500 bail.
