Court date canceled for Oneida County Independence Chair; unclear which judge will oversee

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Chairman of the Oneida County Independence Party was due in Oneida County Court Friday on grand larceny and other charges.

John Dote is accused of stealing nearly $60,000 from the county independence party from 2005 to 2010, but Friday's court appearance was canceled because it's not yet clear which judge will hear Dote's case.

Local judges can't, because anyone who ran for office the past ten years, including judges, had to ask Dote for the Independence Party nomination.

An outside judge is being sought to avoid any conflict of interest.

Whoever the judge is, he or she will have to come to Oneida County to hear the case.
