Crash leads to arrest of woman wanted on separate charges

DEERFIELD, N.Y.(WKTV) - The Oneida County Sheriff's Department has arrested a Utica man for DWI, but one of his passengers is facing much more serious charges.

Cory Badger, 23 of Utica crashed his pickup into a guard rail in the center median along Route 12 in Deerfield last night. When Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, they say they found an intoxicated Badger.

One of the passengers, Jason Badger complained of head injuries, but the second passenger was nowhere to be found. Police learned that Taryn Aiken, 21, had fled the scene and could be injured.

They tracked Aiken's footprints through a swamp, up an embankment overpass, to Miller Road, and up a residential driveway.

They found vehicles tampered with in that driveway, and found Aiken hiding in a garage.

Aiken was wanted on a no bail County Court Warrant for vehicle theft and was taken into custody.

Jason Badger and Aiken were treated at the scene by members of the Deerfield Fire Department for head injuries and transported to St Luke's Hospital.

Cory Badger was charged with DWI, Open Container and Speed not Reasonable infractions.

He will answer the charges at a later date in the Town of Deerfield.

Aiken was charged with Criminal Trespass second degree a class A misdemeanor for unlawfully entering a dwelling. The Bench Warrant issued out of Oneida County Court, indicates no bail.

She will be arraigned in the Town of Deerfield Court on the Trespass charge and incarcerated in the Oneida County Jail awaiting arraignment in County Court in lieu of No Bail.
