Crews out in full force after high winds move through area

By WKTV News

Overnight emergency crews were out in force working to clean up downed trees and utility poles following Hurricane Sandy.

A tree on Pleasant View Place in Whitesboro barely missed a home when it came down shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

Across the region, scanner traffic has been constant as crews responded to trees down, utility poles coming down, and in some cases, fires starting.

Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries.

In Oriskany, wires were reported down on Postal Road and roads were blocked off with safety cones and police stations at Cider Road.

Due to the high winds, many homes were left without power.

As of 5:48 a.m., just over 150 households were without power in Oneida County, 1,760 without power in Herkimer County and 861 without power in Otsego County according to NYSEG and National Grid.
