Cuomo orders flags lowered in honor of NY trooper

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered flags on New York state government buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of the trooper who was killed this week when his patrol vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer on the Thruway.
Cuomo on Wednesday directed the flags to be lowered to half-staff Thursday, two days after Trooper David Cunniff of Duanesburg died from injuries suffered in the crash at Exit 27 in Amsterdam, in the Mohawk Valley.
State police say the trooper had pulled over a motorist for speeding Monday night when his vehicle and the other car were hit by truck driven by a Canadian man. Cunniff died the next day at an Albany hospital. The car's driver is listed in fair condition. The truck driver wasn't hurt.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
