UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - DPW trucks are out and about salting and plowing roads to make sure they are safe for all. Commissioner Dave Short said the main focus is on the areas surrounding schools and hills. Most secondary and tertiary streets will be plowed, but not salted. Preparations for the snow event began yesterday. "Last night we were in, we checked out all of the trucks, windshield wipers, lights, and so on," said Short. "Now we are just waiting and here we are." When it comes to salt, Short said the key is conservation because of the tight Utica City budget. Short also said to be patient and use caution when traveling on the slick and icy roads to avoid an accident.
