Deadline to apply for exam to become Utica Police officer closing in

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Time is running out to sign up for the civil service test to become a Utica Police Officer. The deadline to register is Friday, October 4th at 4:30p.m.

The police department anticipates 40 to 50 openings in the next year and a half to two years.

Applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 35. There are some exceptions for applicants with military experience.

It costs $25 for Utica residents to apply, $50 for non-residents to apply.

The starting salary for Utica Police officers is just above $36,000.

Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Steve Hauck said, " Any police officer will tell you the job is different every single day. No two days are the same. If you like that, it's really an exciting and extremely rewarding job.

You can get the application on the second floor of Utica City Hall in the Civil Service office or go to UPD.com.

The actual test is November 16th.
