Death of Herkimer College soccer player McAvoy ruled natural

By WKTV News

(WKTV) -  Officials say Herkimer College soccer player Peter McAvoy's sudden death in April was natural.

According to the Herkimer Police Department, an autopsy was completed at Albany Medical Center, and the report states the cause of death was cardiac arrhythmia, which is also known as an irregular heartbeat. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, an occasional palpitation or fluttering is usually not serious, but a persistent arrhythmia can be life-threatening and can result in cardiac arrest.

McAvoy's death was investigated by the Herkimer Police Department, Herkimer County Community College's Office of Public Safety, Herkimer County Coroner Vincent Enea and the Herkimer County District Attorney's Office.

McAvoy, of Dundee, Scotland, collapsed in his apartment. He was senior captain of the Herkimer College men's soccer team.
