Destito: Upstate lags in economic growth, thinks proposed casinos could be a remedy
By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A condensed version of Governor Andrew Cuomo's State of the State was delivered by Commissioner of the Office of General Services Roann Destito Thursday morning.

The former local Assemblywoman addressed the fact that Central New York lags behind the rest of the state in job growth. She said that one possible way out of that slump, depending on where they end up, are three new casinos proposed by the governor in his 2013 State of the State Address on Wednesday.

The state legislature has to approve the casino proposals, then it goes to voters for a referendum in November.

Destito says it will be a competition for the area to grab one of the three gaming facilities, adding that the communities that get them, will need to be communities that want them.
